Hey, little girl. This letter is kind of late to you, but I hope you don’t mind too much.

I am your granddad, and I hope I will be around long enough for you to read this letter, and then we have can have some talks. If I am not, like I told your brother and your cousin before you, I’m sure your uncle, your mom and your grandmother can fill you in about me.

You may hear some wild stories about my adventures during my time tramping around this Earth. Take it all with a grain of salt; they may or may not be true (actually, they are probably all true.)

Before we go on, you maybe need to hear a little about me from the source.

Your granddad has always had close ties to the woods and the waters. I was very young when I started hunting and fishing and spending a lot of time outdoors. Really, I can’t remember a time when I didn’t hunt and fish, and that is just who I have been all of my life. When I wasn’t wading in a creek or slipping through the squirrel woods, I was likely reading some outdoors magazine at home (instead of doing my homework from school).
