There will be game film this season on the Tennessee football team, and then there will be something even more intricate.

New Volunteers defensive coordinator Jim Knowles said Thursday that every player on defense and on special teams will have every single tackle charted this season, and all of their misses, too.

“We’ll put them into categories of the ones that were successful and why they were successful, and the ones that weren’t and why they weren’t,” Knowles said during a press conference. “Each guy will have his own tackling reel throughout their career, so you’ll be able to show them the different situations: where the ball was on the field, what kind of play was it, what kind of tackle was used or what wasn’t used and could have been done.

“You can watch the players on film, but when you have an individual tackling breakdown, it’s really the ultimate evaluation.”

Missed tackles were certainly an issue for last season’s Vols, who went 8-5 after posting a 10-3 record in 2024 that included an appearance in the College Football Playoff.
