Cooper Campbell has made plenty of big-time plays on Jim Eberle Field over the years as Notre Dame’s field general on the gridiron with nearly 6,000 total yards and 50 touchdowns over the past three seasons.

Perhaps one of the final lasting marks Campbell left on the football field came in helping the Fighting Irish boys’ soccer program remain unbeaten as they fought to a 1-1 draw with Georgia’s Dalton High School in a nationally-ranked showdown at home Tuesday evening.

Campbell read the angle perfectly off a header and attacked at the top of the box, where he sent a shot that was heavily contested by a slide tackle by Dalton’s defense in the 64th minute. While Campbell was injured on the play, his effort did not go for naught as Notre Dame was awarded a penalty kick.

For the second time in as many games, East Tennessee State University signee Caleb Salenda stepped to the spot and drilled a perfect shot past the Dalton keeper for the equalizer.
