Funeral arrangements for the deputy who died after a vehicle accident on Highway 111 have been released by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

While on duty the evening of April 8, deputy Landon Faulkner, 24, was traveling south on Highway 111 in Sequatchie County when he struck a disabled pickup truck in the left travel lane near Lewis Chapel Road, according to a preliminary crash report.

He was not wearing a seat belt, the report said, and he was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Three days later, on Saturday, the Sheriff’s Office announced Faulkner’s death on social media.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Gracyn Gordon referred a question about why Faulkner was driving in Sequatchie County to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the agency investigating the crash. A spokesperson for that agency, Capt. Cecil Harvey, said by email it would be inappropriate for him to comment on behalf of another agency and referred that question back to the Sheriff’s Office.

Regarding other questions, Harvey said the wreck is still being investigated and suggested the Chattanooga Times Free Press file an open records request for further information, which the newspaper has done. The Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security said by email that it would provide an update on the records request on or before April 23.
