Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Nolan Smith Jr. was arrested last week in his home state of Georgia for driving 135 mph in a 70 mph zone, authorities said.

Smith, who played college football for the Georgia Bulldogs from 2019-22 before becoming a first-round pick in the NFL draft, was cited for speeding and reckless driving, the Twiggs County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

He posted bond and was released shortly after his arrest on May 15.

Smith, who is from Savannah, was selected by the Eagles with the 30th pick overall in 2023. He has 25 quarterback hits, 10.5 sacks, 10 tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries over three pro seasons.

He played a crucial role in the 2024 season during the Eagles’ run to the Super Bowl LIX title, recording five quarterback hits, four sacks and four tackles for loss during the playoffs. He famously refused to exit the Eagles’ 40-22 title victory against the Kansas City Chiefs despite sustaining a torn triceps that later required surgery.
