Jurors delivered a split verdict Friday in a 2024 fatal shooting off Vine Street, acquitting a man of first-degree murder but deadlocking on other charges.

A Hamilton County judge declared a partial mistrial for Andre Johnson, 34. Jurors were hopelessly divided on whether Johnson was guilty of a reduced second-degree murder charge tied to the death of Cedric Dickens, an attempted murder charge involving Cynthia Green and a related firearm charge.

The partial impasse came after two days of deliberations. The jury was brought before Judge Boyd Patterson three times before the mistrial was declared.

After the first hung jury report, Patterson had asked jurors to return to deliberations for 30 minutes to an hour and keep working toward a resolution.

“As you can tell, both sides put a lot of work into this,” he said. “No one’s role in any of this is easy.”
