The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s golf program announced that Virginia assistant Annie Schmidt will be the program’s new head coach.
Schmidt comes to Chattanooga after seven seasons as an assistant coach, the three most recent at UVA. She also has two seasons of experience at both the University of Denver and Division III Denison, with all three programs either winning conference titles or advancing to the NCAA Championships over the last six years.
“We’re excited to bring Annie to the Scenic City,” UTC vice chancellor for athletics Mark Wharton said in a press release. “Her experience and leadership stood out, and she is ready to elevate this program on the national stage.”
She becomes the second full-time coach since the program was re-instated prior to the 2007-08 season. Colette Murray was the first, building the program from scratch and being the leader for 18 seasons until she and the program parted ways in October. Murray was replaced by Katie Woodruff, who took over on an interim basis and guided the program this season.
