COHUTTA, Ga. — After a chaotic week in which the Cohutta Police Department was fired by the mayor and reinstated by the Town Council, the council held its regularly scheduled monthly meeting Tuesday.

Only the meeting wasn’t regular at all.

With Mayor Ron Shinnick and Vice Mayor Shane Kornberg absent, the council decided not to vote on anything and turned the meeting into a public comment session, said Andy Lopez, a council member.

At the last meeting, a special meeting on Friday to reinstate the Police Department, many people wanted to express concerns, but there wasn’t enough time, Lopez said.

“So, if anybody wants to come up, what we’re going to do is, please calmly speak, express your concerns,” Lopez said. “We don’t want you yelling or raising any kind of Cain, please.”
