Fourth-place finishes were the best the Chattanooga area could claim in the Class A/AA state golf tournament Tuesday and Wednesday at the par-72 WillowBrook Golf Club course in Manchester.

Boyd-Buchanan’s girls, who won the District 5 and Region 3 titles, earned their fourth-place finish by shooting 340. They were led by district and region medalist Lydia Campbell, whose two-day 164 left her in 10th.

Signal Mountain sophomore Lindsey Hollis totaled 156 for a fourth-place finish individually, best among all the Chattanooga-area golfers. After shooting 82 the first day, she came back Wednesday and shot 74, which tied her with medalist Caroline Cavin (151) of Christian Academy of Knoxville for the best round the second day.

Christ Presbyterian Academy was the boys’ team winner at 595, which was 11 shots better than Knoxville Catholic’s total. Catholic’s Kyle Cottam was medalist at 6-under-par 138.

CAK was the girls’ team winner at 310. Runner-up South Gibson shot 334.

Chattanooga Christian senior Anna Beth Harris and Signal Mountain junior Taylor Gardner finished one stroke behind Campbell in a four-way tie for 11th place in the girls’ field. Other girls joining Campbell from Region 3 in the top 20 were Sequoyah’s Macy Moses (170) at 18th and Hixson’s Haley Chalker (171) at 19th.

The highest-finishing boy from the Chattanooga area was McMinn Central’s John Houk, who totaled 151 and tied for 14th.

The other local teams in the tournament were the Chattanooga Christian girls and the Silverdale Baptist Academy boys. Harris’s score led the Lady Chargers.

Freshman Dalton Sutton, the boys’ District 5 and Region 3 medalist, registered the Seahawks’ best score with a 154. He tied for 22nd individually.
