BERLIN — The United States put forth a dominant performance to reach the semifinals of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup again. Spain awaits the Americans there.
Those two teams are joined in the final four by France and host Germany, who meet in Saturday’s first semifinal. Tipoff is set for 10:30 p.m. Eastern on TBS and TruTv, which will also televise the Spain-U.S. matchup at 2 p.m.
The gold-medal and bronze-medal games are Sunday.
The Americans routed Hungary 108-56, which was the second-biggest margin of victory in the quarterfinals in World Cup history. The 108 points were the most ever by a team in the quarterfinals, and the U.S. also had 31 assists, which was the most in the knockout round.
U.S. guard Rhyne Howard, a four-time WNBA All-Star for the Atlanta Dream and a former Chattanooga-area prep basketball standout at Bradley Central, had 15 points, four steals, two assists and a pair of rebounds in 17 minutes.
