A man died Tuesday after stabbing his own neck while sheriff’s deputies tried to serve an arrest warrant at a Shallowford Road hotel, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man was identified as Arden Perkins Jr., 59, according to the Tennesse Bureau of Investigation.

Detectives were attempting to serve Perkins a warrant for charges of domestic assault, aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary and two counts of violating an order of protection, the Sheriff’s Office said in a press release Wednesday.

He was arrested in East Ridge in August on another charge of domestic assault, local jail records show.

Perkins started making threats while deputies were trying to serve the warrant, the Sheriff’s Office said. He then began stabbing his neck with a knife.
