All you can eat in the Scenic City, A-Z
Scenic City LEGO-lovers come in all shapes and sizes — and ages — especially these days.

In 1995, Joe Cook hopped in a canoe and traveled from the headwaters of the Chattahoochee River all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico. When all was said and done, Cook had traversed 540 miles in 100 days.

Norma Hansen's husband knows not to schedule any appointments for Tuesday mornings — those belong to her.

Jack London knew at least one invariable fact about his fiancée, Elina Stikute: She hated barbecue sauce.

The average American spends a total of just two hours per week, or 17 minutes per day, exercising. Only about 0.05% of the U.S. population has ever completed a marathon, while approximately 0.007% of the entire world's population has ever done an ultra-marathon (any distance longer than the 26.2 miles of a marathon).

As I stepped out of my car into plumes of BBQ smoke early one Saturday morning, I could see the headline forming in my mind's eye: Newspaper lady shows up to BBQ competition with a bag of Twizzlers.

For decades, the drab little building at the foot of Signal Mountain has been assaulted by sun, wind, rain — even the collateral damage of a mudslide that flattened a neighboring property in 2019. But if its weather-beaten exterior is showing its age, the restaurant inside is thriving.

Chattanoogans experienced a slice of Italy's charming coastal countryside, thanks to this year's theme of "Under the Tuscan Sun" at the CHI Memorial Foundation's Pink! Gala. Held in a redecorated Chattanooga Convention Center, this black-tie fundraiser, which has raised $5.6 million since 2005, featured a lavish meal and lively auctions while honoring breast cancer survivors. The CHI Memorial Foundation is a nonprofit that aims to ensure local access to lifesaving care.

Track and field Olympic gold medalist DeeDee Trotter inspired the crowd at the Chattanooga Track Club (CTC)'s annual banquet at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. The three-time U.S. Olympian set the stage with stories of resilience and triumph, setting the tone for members to reflect on their past year of races and fitness milestones. This social event reinforced CTC's mission to promote running, walking and a healthy Chattanooga community.

Beads flew, drinks flowed and revelers danced the night away as the Mystikal Krewe of Indulgences (MKI) brought a slice of Bourbon Street to the Read House. Their 29th annual Chattanooga Mardi Gras celebration served up a Cajun and Creole feast and a lively Dixieland soundtrack as guests cheered the coronation of the city's new Mardi Gras king and queen. Dedicated to promoting the activities, history and culture of Mardi Gras, MKI donated the night's proceeds to Downside Up, a nonprofit helping families with children with disabilities.
