ATV driver rescued from Aetna Mountain

Emergency workers from a number of agencies spent the night rescuing the victim of a four-wheel-drive accident on Aetna Mountain, Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner said this morning.

The 24-year old man, whose name has not been released, apparently went over an embankment and slid 100 feet or more down a steep slope late Friday, Mr. Garner said in a news release.

He said the Chattanooga Fire Department was notified of the incident just before midnight. According to the release, it was unclear whose jurisdiction this incident was in so several agencies participated, including Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue’s Cave-Cliff Team.

Rescue workers used their own four-wheelers and a four-wheel-drive truck to get to the victim. The team called for Erlanger’s LifeForce helicopter but the terrain was too steep for a landing, Mr. Garner said.

The injured man was brought up the slope and a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency officer took him down the mountain to a Hamilton County ambulance, Mr. Garner said.
