Lee University’s residential life department has overhauled its staffing strategy this fall, cutting six residential director positions in the process.
Under the changes, several of the 10 remaining residential directors will look after two dorms instead of one, said Brian Conn, director of public information at Lee.
To make up for lost staff, Lee is raising the number of residential area coordinators from one to three, said residential life director Tracey Carlson. The area coordinators will live in dorms as well, allowing residential directors to focus more on students, she said.
The university also has established a set of “senior residential assistants” to help with administrative tasks in the 16 dorms that residential directors used to handle, she said.
Lee has traditionally had a lower student-residential director ratio than most colleges across the nation, Carlson said. The restructuring helps to align Lee with similar institutions, she said.
