Tennessee disaster team headed for Haiti

Members of a statewide emergency medical team left for Haiti on Sunday evening to help with the island nation’s recovery from an earthquake last month.

Participants came from Tennessee’s Disaster Medical Assistance Team, which is based in Chattanooga.

With a mission expected to last at least two weeks, the 35-member team – consisting of doctors, nurses and paramedics from across the state – was put on alert over the weekend.

The team includes medical and logistical professionals with the training to quickly move into a disaster area and administer medical care.
