An attempt to steal a car ended tonight when the thief crashed the vehicle into a nearby business, police said.
As the thief drove away from where the car was parked, the steering wheel locked and the car crashed into a building at 3941 Hixson Pike, Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Jerri Weary said.
The owner of the vehicle was advised of the crash by Big Lots employees as she shopped. The thief fled the scene before police arrived, Sgt. Weary said.
The crash’s impact caused structural damage to the building and the car, she said.
