It’s Jan. 6, so I’ve been on my diet for two days now. Yes, I’m one of those who always starts a diet following all the holiday celebrations. For the past month, after deciding to start dieting again, I think I’ve eaten a gallon of nuts and bolts; made my way through Mexico via El Metate, eating every kind of burrito I could get my hands on; didn’t even hesitate to track down every good Reuben in town. I’ve probably put on a good 10 pounds doing so, but loved every bite along the way. Now, I’m ready to pay for it.
My plan was to start Weight Watchers again. It’s the best diet I’ve found. But back in December, I read a news release that the banana diet was back. It started in Japan when a pharmacist was looking for a diet plan for her husband. He ended up losing 38 pounds — didn’t say how long it took him. But bananas flew off the shelves in Japan once word spread.
The diet is simple:
* Two bananas and 8 ounces of room-temperature water at breakfast.
* A cup of chopped/shredded roasted turkey, 3 ounces of black beans, a tangerine and a cup of fruit salad for lunch.
