Thousands of people, as young as 30 and as old as 70, have had the uplifting experience of flying like a bird from Lookout Mountain.

The Lookout Mountain Flight Park near Trenton, Ga., has been providing hang-gliding rides and flight instruction for more than 30 years.

“I think people have an affinity for flying,” said Matt Taber, the owner and manager of the flight park. “Here, they can fly like a bird and have a spiritual experience.”

The flight park, one of the top hang-gliding schools in the nation, trains about five times more pilots every year than any other school.

Mr. Taber believes the sport will continue to grow as Chattanooga becomes better known for its recreational opportunities. “I think the future is strong,” Mr. Taber said. “We have our best year ever last year, and hang gliding is becoming more mainstream. And as far as action sports go, it’s really a much lower injury risk than people think.”
