Gilmore heading to Lions

Tyner’s Reginald Gilmore signed a basketball scholarship Tuesday with Freed-Hardeman University, an NAIA Division I program in Henderson, Tenn.

The Lions went 22-11 this past year.

Meanwhile, the 6-foot-5 Gilmore was the Rams’ leading scorer, averaging 16.7 points as well as 7.6 rebounds a game in helping them reach the Class AA state tournament for the first time in 11 years.

“He was our most consistent player all season and was a big reason for the success we had,” Tyner coach Gerald Harris said. “I’m very proud of Reggie because he’s worked very hard to make himself a college prospect.

“He worked on his outside game to develop a jumper and is now a player that should make a pretty easy transition to the next level. They’re looking for a high-energy guy and a rebounder, and he definitely fits that role.”

Gilmore is the third Tyner player from last season’s team to sign a scholarship. He follows 6-foot-9 post Michael Bradley, who’s headed to Connecticut, and Thomas Cooper, who signed with North Carolina A&T.
