Soddy-Daisy will play host Cookeville at 7:30 tonight for the Region 3-AAA volleyball championship following the Lady Trojans’ 3-0 victory over Warren County on Monday.
Cookeville beat Cleveland 3-0 in the other semifinal – 25-10, 25-19, 25-18.
Soddy-Daisy won 25-17, 25-6 and 25-20.
“Once we settled down and got used to the gym, we settled in,” Soddy-Daisy coach Lorri Johnson said.
Cookeville downed Soddy-Daisy earlier this season, but the Lady Trojans have won their last 15 matches.
“We may be more balanced [than Cookeville],” Johnson said. “They have one player that’s 6-foot-3 or 6-4 that they funnel everything to, and she’s pretty good. She has signed with somebody.”
Soddy-Daisy was led by Kelsey Nunley with 11 kills, 10 digs and three aces.
The winner of tonight’s match will host a sectional on Thursday, while the runner-up will travel. Region 3 is paired with Region 4.
Silverdale advances
Silverdale Baptist advanced to the District 5-A/AA soccer semifinals with a 4-0 win Monday over visiting Sequoyah. The Lady Seahawks will play at McMinn Central at 5 p.m. today.
Abbie Alosi scored two goals and Anna Ioannidis had a goal and an assist. The other goal came from Stephanie Bautista.
“My goal tonight was to win the game, for all of the girls to play several minutes and to be ready to go tomorrow night,” Silverdale coach Chris Neighbors said.
Sequoyah keeper Katie Wagner had 12 saves as the Lady Seahawks outshot the Lady Chiefs 16-1.
