Teenager killed in car crash
A 19-year-old woman died early Thursday when her speeding car struck a guardrail and landed on its side on state Highway 153.
Ariel Ann Pegram, who was not wearing her seat belt, was found lying behind the driver’s seat with fatal injuries, Chattanooga police spokeswoman Rebecca Royval said.
She said police were called about 3 a.m. Thursday to the northbound exit ramp at Highway 153 and Bonny Oaks Drive.
A witness told police that Pegram’s Nissan Maxima passed him on the highway without its headlights on and in heavy fog. The witness exited at Bonny Oaks Drive and saw the crashed car, Royval said.
When exiting, Pegram’s vehicle apparently hit a guardrail and landed on its left side, police said.
Man says wife bit him, hit him
A Chattanooga woman was arrested Wednesday, accused of hitting her husband in the arm with a crutch and biting him on his chest.
Renita Daniel was charged with aggravated domestic assault and vandalism under $500.
According to an affidavit, Renita Daniel, 30, of 3610 Central Ave., went to the house to gather her belongings. Her husband, Larone, told police that the two began to argue, and his wife hit him and bit him.
“Police observed several long red bruises on his arm,” the affidavit states. “Police also observed a very obvious bite mark on his chest.”
A witness told police that, when she arrived, she saw Renita Daniel attacking her husband. The witness said Renita Daniel then used a kitchen knife to cut up clothes in the yard.
Police saw the shredded clothing when they arrived, according to the affidavit.
Meth-making equipment found
Cooperation by Sequatchie and Hamilton County authorities led to the discovery of 27 used and discarded “shake and bake” methamphetamine-making devices in the Soddy-Daisy area.
According to a news release, the used meth-making equipment was found during a search in the 9200 block of West Ridge Trail Road, east of U.S. Highway 27 and north of Sequoyah Access Road. The search area was about an eighth of a mile, according to Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Janice Atkinson.
Atkinson said Sequatchie sheriff’s officials called Hamilton officials with information and the joint investigation is ongoing.
