Panel urges upgrading computer system for Marion jail

JASPER, Tenn. – Marion County may need to spend about $12,000 updating the jail’s computer system, according to the Marion County Commission’s Finance Committee.

The system recently malfunctioned and has had other problems, committee member Les Price said in a committee meeting last week.

“They’ve been borrowing a computer to [operate the jail] from the manufacturer,” he said. “To take and repair the downed computer would cost $9,300.”

A new computer system would cost $12,375, officials said.

“There would be a warranty involved with the new [computer system],” Price said. “There wouldn’t be a warranty on the repair.”
