MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – A tornado watch passed uneventfully in southwest Alabama, but heavy rain is expected across the state.
Forecasters at the National Weather Service said the Montgomery area can expect showers and heavy rainfall on New Year’s Day. The rain will continue until Sunday.
The strongest storms are expected in areas west of Interstate 65 until noon.
Other states suffered worse destruction Friday from severe storms and tornadoes. At least six people were killed and dozens injured by tornadoes moving across Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois.
