Former Chattanooga Police detective David Catchings, Jr. appeared Friday before criminal court Judge Barry Steelman.

Catchings, 35, is charged with reckless driving, violation of implied consent and driving under the influence. The charges stem from a September incident in which a witness called police to report Catchings' car was weaving in and out of traffic.

Domestic assault charges relating to an incident in which his mother-in-law claims he struck her across the face were bound over to a grand jury in February.

Catchings was fired from CPD March 30 after a conduct hearing found him responsible for unbecoming conduct and disseminating information improperly.

Catchings was scheduled to be arraigned Friday, but attorney Johnny Houston, who represented him in sessions court, told Steelman Catchings needed more time to hire him. He was given until June 26.
