Great week friends.
From the “Talks too much studios” time to make the dough, nuts.
From JonMac5
I still listen to you as much as possible. I try and go fishing or some other activity everyday about 3 pm. You and David complement each other so much and your guests are awesome.. it is one of the best sports shows in America. There is very little negative said….The five at ten is a must read everyday, never missed one…so much info. Just need a little more interaction from me and everyone else….do miss BIB…
Thanks for the info today about the Tillman jerseys. It has been great watching the game. I am a Vietnam vet in my early 60s. I had to go because my draft number said so….I ended up enlisting in the Marine Corps…and it has been a huge benefit to my life since. I have the highest respect for a person making the money he was that volunteered for his country. We did what we did and what the Pat Tillman’s continue to do, not because of our stupid politicians but because we love America.
I have a couple of things that you can include in your mailbag.
UNC had not given up any punt return yardage this year…..I thought that was amazing…their punts are high and short or squibbed…but no returns…..your thoughts?
I have noticed more and more that some college players wear no knee protection and their uniforms do not come to the knee….seems like any protections would be better than none at all…
JonMac –
Wow, great to hear from one of the old-time regulars. Crazy to think how long we’ve been doing this and the names that have come and gone from around these parts.
Heck, last Sunday was the five-year anniversary of the 5-at-10. Our first versions of this was much shorter and was followed by a 2:00 Drill at 2 p.m. in the afternoon.
Good times, and thanks to all who have made this journey as crazy and as much fun as it has been.
Thanks, too, for your service and the Tillman tribute last night by Arizona State was awesome. Man, how crazy was that game, and the offensive numbers in today’s college football are crazy. ASU had more than 720 yards of offense. And lost.
The punt return strategy of lobbing it high and covering is a good one.
We, too, have wondered about knee pads, but man, if those cats are cool with it, who are we to complain.
Great to hear from you JonMac, and thanks for the kind words and for following along.

From Patriot Way
Man, my Pats are killing people. I thought they would be good this year, but not this.
Who could have expected them to be this good?
Just wanted your thoughts and does 16-0 seem possible again?
PW –
Well, we called Brady going full-blown assassin mode before the season, and he’s delivering in full.
And, it looks like comedian Daniel Tosh also was in heavy on the Pats last night, betting $25,000 on the Pats to cover the 3.5 in the first half. He did it for a friend of his who is struggling with medical bills from cancer. And he’s a huge Dolphins fan.
Cool move.
Speaking of cool moves, Brady is now 36-4 career at home vs. AFC foes. That’s staggering.
He finished last night 26-of-38 for 356 yards and four TDs. He’s on pace for more than 5,500 passing yards and 46 TDs. Dude is motivated.
That said, so many things play into 16-0, so no, we don’t see that being in play.

Hey bud, been a while. I’m not getting to spend as much time around these parts as I used to.
Will you cover your Rushmores this week — you had some good ones.
Also, we’re going to the UTC game tomorrow. How many folks you think will be there?
Thanks and keep up the good work.
JJ –
Rushmores this week:
Musical siblings, we’ll go the Jacksons, the Wilsons from the Beach Boys, the Allmans and the Everlys. (Hate to leave out personal youthful favorities the Van Halen brothers, but they are more like Hank and Tommy Aaron with one all-timer and his pretty good drumming brother.)
Rushmore of Atlanta pro sports athletes: Hank, Dominique, Steve Bartkowski and most likely Chipper (the three pitchers complement each and diluted each other, you know; plus Chipper was the only one of that Hall of Fame group that spent his whole career in the A-T-L.)
Rushmore of UTC football: We are stuck on No. 4, so we need some help. But the first three in our view are TO, Davis Tull and Jacob Huesman.
Rushmore of Candy: Reese’s, Butterfingers, Blow Pops and there was a time when we actually ate our weight in Lemonheads.
As for UTC, we’ll go over 13,000 but probably under 15,000. Homecoming is always a nice crowd and the weather looks promising with Alabama off and UT not until 7 p.m.
(Side note: If you need tickets, 266-MOCS. Also, MT, feel free to link your site if you’d like. Very good Mocs information there for those so inclined.)

OK, watching the World Series coverage, I can’t take my eyes off of Pete Rose.
Tell me you are watching this?
And who at Fox decided to hire Pete and ARod for their studio show? That had to come from someone named Murdoch, right?
Stewart –
What a great question, and you are so right. That had to be some one very, Very, VERY high up to add the biggest liar and the biggest lightning rod in the game’s history to World Series pregame shows. It’s like if Fox had the Tour de France coverage and they plopped Lance Armstrong right in the middle of the pregame and postgame coverage.
Rose has been can’t miss TV. He has not been good, in fact, he’s gone full-blown Road House. He’s so bad, it’s awesome.
When asked about his relation with Johnny Cueto, the Royals pitcher who was dominant in Game 2, one of the talking heads asked Rose, “He’s kind of like a step-son to you right?”
Rose: “No, my step-sons speak English.”
LONG PAUSE.
Rose then starts singing “Johnny B Good.”
You can’t make things like this up.
We are covering a high school football game tonight, but we are DVRing the pregame show of the World Series tonight because Pete Rose is involved. We wish we were making this up.

What was your favorite trick or treat candy as a kid? Also, where there any old-wives tales that you remember?
X-man –
Great question. Simply awesome.
If we had to give you a Rushmore of candy we would try to circle back and get seconds, we’ll go: Reese’s; any house that the full-sized candy bars rather than the minis; Blow Pops; and M&Ms.
Do not – REPEAT Do Not – be the fruits and veggies house. You then are the “Get off my lawn” old guy of Halloween.
And at least once ever Halloween we remember the old stories about how someone somewhere put a razor blade in an apple. We also remember back in the day hospitals would X-ray candy for you. Does anyone else remember that? Nuts, right. And yet another reason not to be the fruits and veggies guy.
Other urban legends from my youth: Someone’s cousin out of town who got bit by a spider and it scabbed up and a few days later in the shower, it peeled back and all these baby spiders came out of the wound; Somone had a friend out of town who went to school with twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello (Lemon Jello and Orange Jello).

Going to a Halloween party this weekend, and was wondering if you had any last-minute costume ideas?
You seem like a pretty clever guy, so can you help a guy out?
LT –
I emailed you back with some needed details: Are you going with your wife, a date, looking to hook up? Needed some details so we’ll answer each specific scenario.
If you are going with the wife, well we’d assume you’d be doing the couple thing. Could we suggest you going as Bruce Jenner and maybe she going as Caitlyn Jenner? You also could go political and pair anything with Hillary – be it Trump or Sanders or even Slick Willie Clinton. (Although you run the risk of seeing multiple other Hillarys there.) If that does not work, you always have fallbacks like Bonnie and Clyde and/or Frankenstein and Bride of Frankstein.
In this Oct. 24, 2015 photo, Aya Shiozaki, left, and Shoko Ushimaru pose for a photo during a Halloween party event in Tokyo. The spooky celebration is consuming the energy, fashion sense and wallets of people for the entire month of October, not just kids but also adults on the prowl with colorful parades, costume parties and pumpkin-inspired desserts, dress-up and decor everywhere. (AP Photo/Koji Sasahara) If you are going with a date, you need to make sure she’s comfortable with whatever idea you come up with first. Couple things are tough, depending on the level of your relationship. If this is early in the process, we’d suggest not doing a direct couple link. A potential here is going as a tandem from the show “Orange is the New Black” where you’re a guard and she’s a prison inmate.
If you are going as a group of dudes, well, good luck with that. We’d do the skeleton crew that the Cobra Kai used in the Karate Kid, but that may be too dated for you and the crowd.
As for going single, well, remember the goal. Do not go with something too big or too convoluted that you can’t mingle (wink, wink). We made this mistake one year as we we built a table around our midsection and nailed a couple of shampoo bottles to it and went as the Denorex guy. “This side tingles; this side not so much.”
An off-the-wall idea that a buddy of ours had a ton of success with was dressing up as a women’s basketball coach (cheap, Goodwill female business suit and moderate shoes and a clipboard and you are good) and then he preceded to smack a lot of women on the fanny and “Let’s go make a play,” or “Great hustle out there.”
Well-played indeed.
While we’re here, and since the Lil 5-at-10 is going as Darth Vader (aka Dark Vader to his 5-year-old sister) and Lil Miss 5-at-10 is going as Yoda, we thought this was an awesome Halloween idea and execution. Yep, that’s a dad who turned his son’s wheelchair into a Snowspeeder from Empire Strikes Back.
