Chattanooga already hosts two Ironman events, a few marathons and several other prominent recreation competitions that help comprise the city’s outdoor identity.

Now it has a beer run, too.

And it’s not the kind where you hop in the car and drive to the gas station to grab a six pack.

Racers in Tuesday’s inaugural Chatt Brew Beer Mile at Finley Stadium will drink a can of beer every quarter mile, completing four laps around the field totaling one mile during the rain-or-shine event scheduled for 5:30 p.m.

“Our goal is to break the state record of 22 finishers tomorrow,” race organizer Randy Whorton said. “And then we want to go and have a full-on competition every three months. There’s some serious interest in this.”
