The Chattanooga area is expected to get poured on several times this week as two weather fronts bring in showers and thunderstorms.

A stationary front south of Chattanooga is expected to bring on-and-off showers and thunderstorms before a cold front moves in, bringing additional periods of rain and thunderstorms with it for the weekend, said Jeremy Buckles, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Morristown, Tenn.

Thursday and Friday are expected to have the most storms as the stationary front lifts north ahead of an area of low pressure.

“With such a moist airmass, heavy rain will be a possibility with some of these showers and thunderstorms,” Buckles said. “After the drought last year, we are seeing the opposite weather this year with Chattanooga having precipitation about 8.5 inches above normal for the year.”

Temperatures will remain in the 80s during the day and nights will cool down to the low 70s, according to WRCB.
