Competition for playing time within the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga wide receivers room is ramping up a few notches if the latest football recruiting news is any indication.
Coach Rusty Wright’s Mocs have four known commitments for the second signing period starting Wednesday, three of them receivers. UTC signed three others in December after finishing the 2019 season with 12 wideouts listed on the roster.
The latest commitments are from Griffin (Georgia) High School’s Jamoi Mayes and Walhalla (South Carolina) High’s Will Harris (by way of East Hamilton locally). They join Shamar Sandgren from Island’s High School in Savannah, who committed two weeks ago, among the growing receiving corps.
“The receiver room is an area we wanted to improve during this period,” Wright recently said. “We think we did that with the early period, and we hopefully will add to it.”
In Mayes (5-foot-10, 190), they are adding a three-star prospect (by 247Sports.com) who had Power Five offers from Colorado and Kansas State. A three-year starter at Griffin, he led the team with 45 receptions for 611 yards and seven touchdowns while earning All-Region 3-AAAAA honors as a senior.
