Walker County officials have announced the closure of county services to the public, suspended schools and canceled gatherings through the end of the month as a precaution for the spread of COVID-19.
Emergency Management Director Blake Hodge said officials are monitoring with the Georgia Department of Health officials at the state and federal levels to keep residents safe.
“Due to the limited testing capabilities, we feel it is appropriate to take precautions and to help mitigate the potential spread in our community,” Hodge said at a March 13 press conference.
Walker County has zero confirmed cases of COVID-19. The first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Hamilton County Friday.
Starting Monday, March 16, all community and activity centers will be closed through the end of March, Walker County Sole Commissioner Shannon Whitfield announced. This includes the Walker County Civic Center, LaFayette Senior Citizen Center and Rossville Athletic Center.
