Dalton running back Greenwade earns TFP Player of the Week honors

Throughout the summer Tyson Greenwade and the Dalton football team kept their nose to the grindstone with hopes to make lasting memories in the 2022 season.

The Catamounts — and their senior tailback — certainly made some memories in their season opener last Friday. Greenwade and company were nearly unstoppable in Friday’s 49-27 home win over North Murray, which was the first matchup between the two programs, as he rushed for a career-high 371 yards and six touchdowns on 24 carries.

Apart from blasting past defensive backs and breaking tackles up the middle, the Dalton star also added one of the Catamounts three interceptions against reigning Region 6-3A Player of the Year Seth Griffin. For his effort Greenwade has been selected Times Free Press Player of the Week.

“To start the season off with a strong start like that really felt great,” said the 5-foot-11, 195-pound Greenwade, who rushed for 810 yards and 17 touchdowns last season. “The coaches made sure we worked extremely hard over the summer, so I knew our preparation would pay off. That’s the most rushing yards I’ve ever had in a game and it’s all thanks to my linemen, tight ends and receivers who threw great blocks for me.”
