Dig in now with stadium research

This will be a busy week as Thursday’s Hamilton County General Election and the state primary sets the stage for future decisions and news. We’ve said it before and say it again: Elections matter. Especially locally.

A couple of weeks ago and over several days, I put Times Editorial Page endorsements out there for you, and on Tuesday I’ll offer a brief recap of those recommendations for the contested races in our local and state elections.

I’m also asking you to read more – in fact everything you get – on the $80 million of our tax dollars being lined up by local leaders to build a new Lookouts Stadium on the Southside property where U.S. Pipe and Wheland foundries operated decades ago. The county mayor’s race seems to have devolved down to that one issue: The stadium. Should we barrel ahead with the plan or take a pause and study it to be sure we’re making the right financial commitments and getting the most we should – from a taxpayer standpoint?

As I said in my last newsletter, whatever election results bring, it looks like the stadium is going to fly until it doesn’t – most likely, we think, from eventual cost overruns and/or a fallen fields of dreams if MLB pulls the plug on the league.
