The decision was made to not press charges at this time after representatives from the Walker County Sheriff’s Office met with District Attorney Chris Arnt Wednesday morning, according to a written release from the sheriff’s office.

The deceased was identified as Danny Douglas Claire, 53, and the shooter as Jeremy Dewayne McCrary, 43, both residents of Chickamauga. There is no evidence that the men knew each other, the sheriff’s office reported.

The incident began when McCrary and another person were riding motorcycles and Claire was driving an SUV at about 7:20 p.m. Tuesday east of Chickmauga on Lee Clarkson Road, the sheriff’s office reported. The three men continued southbound onto Highway 341, stopping in the parking lot of the Dollar General located at 15 Garretts Chapel Road.

The men immediately engaged in a scuffle, according to the release. McCrary then fired his 9 mm weapon, striking Claire in the chest. Claire was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
