OXFORD, Miss. — Kermit Davis is no longer the men’s basketball coach at Ole Miss, his tenure ending with the Rebels mired in a four-game losing streak and at the bottom of the 14-team Southeastern Conference standings.
In a news release issued Friday, Keith Carter, the school’s vice chancellor for intercollegiate athletics, said Ole Miss and Davis “have mutually agreed to part ways effective immediately.”
Davis, 63, was in his fifth season leading the Rebels. They went 74-79 under his direction, including 10-18 overall and 2-13 in SEC games this season. They have back-to-back home games against LSU on Saturday and Texas A&M on Tuesday before closing the regular season at Missouri on March 4.
The SEC tournament begins March 8 in Nashville.
“We thank Coach Davis for his dedication to the Ole Miss basketball program and our student-athletes,” Carter said in the release. “No one wanted to bring a title home to Mississippi more than him, and we appreciate the passion for that goal that he shared with our team every day.”
