Man charged after CARTA bus carjacking in Chattanooga


A 45-year-old man faces several charges after police responded to a carjacking involving a CARTA bus, according to a news release from the Chattanooga Police Department.

Shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday, police were alerted that a man had entered a bus on Brainerd Road and, after a few stops, "produced a shotgun and robbed a passenger on the bus," the release stated. The man was identified as Chadrick Weaver.

According to authorities, Weaver "had the driver drive downtown, where the bus was intercepted by police."

The bus was located on Market Street, and Weaver was taken into custody. He has been charged with aggravated robbery, carjacking, aggravated kidnapping and weapons charges.

No one was injured during the incident, and an investigation is underway.
