Chattanooga police investigating officer shown sleeping in video

A Chattanooga Police Department officer is under investigation after a video showing him sleeping in a patrol car parked in a turn lane surfaced this week.

The video, obtained and first reported by WTVC News Channel 9 on Thursday, appears to show Sgt. Jonathan Brock sitting in the driver's seat of a Chattanooga police patrol car with his head tilted down. The person recording, who asked Channel 9 to remain anonymous, shines a bright flashlight into the car's window. Brock does not appear to respond to the light.

The clip was recorded Dec. 17 on East 23rd Street in Chattanooga, near the Rossville Boulevard exit on Interstate 24, the video's owner told Channel 9. It shows Brock's car stopped, with its head and taillights on, in the street's center turn lane.

Police opened an investigation involving Brock on Tuesday, Assistant Chief Jerri Sutton said in an email Friday.

Brock has not been placed on leave, Sutton said. Department records show he was hired in 2005.
