Prep roundup: Dennis Lewis Jr. leads Brainerd to home win over Hamilton Heights

Although he stands just 5-foot-9, Brainerd point guard Dennis Lewis Jr. is big trouble for opponents on the basketball court.

The senior star led the way to a 72-69 home win over Hamilton Heights on Saturday, scoring 25 points to go with nine assists, seven rebounds and four steals.

The Panthers (17-7) led for most of the game, but Hamilton Heights fought back to take the lead by two in the fourth quarter. Lewis then took over down the stretch, assisting on and hitting crucial buckets to close the victory.

"Dennis showed tonight why he is the best player in Chattanooga," Brainerd coach Levar Brown said.

Hamilton Heights (11-11), which scored 21 points in the fourth quarter, was led by 6-foot-6 senior Ogbonna Agbo, who matched Lewis for the game high in points with 25.


STARS OF THE NIGHT

Courtney Zensen, Whitwell: The senior point guard for the Lady Tigers scored 11 of her 31 points in the fourth quarter and hit five 3-pointers in a 60-47 comeback win over visiting Silverdale Baptist.

BB Bates, Dalton: She scored 18 points as the Lady Catamounts defeated rival Northwest Whitfield 64-48 to complete a sweep of their two regular-season meetings.

Gabe Perez, Northwest Whitfield: He was 7-for-8 from the field while scoring 21 points and added five rebounds in a 66-62 overtime win at rival Dalton.
