RINGGOLD, Ga. — First-round high school baseball series between No. 1 and No. 4 seeds are supposed to be near afterthoughts.

Then again, Gilmer is far from a usual fourth-place team.

The Bobcats strolled into Bill Womack Field and hung the first loss of the season on Ringgold ace Sebastian Haggard, 4-2, in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader start to the GHSA Class AAA series.

The Tigers regrouped to force a game three Wednesday at 5 as Conner Christopher drove in four runs in a 5-3 win in Tuesday’s nightcap.

Ringgold coach Drew Walker said his team expected the games to be tight, especially after losing game one of last year’s second-round series against Gilmer’s region rival, Wesleyan, before rallying to win the final two en route to a run to the championship series.
