Piles of scrap metal burned for several hours at a private Chattanooga recycling facility Tuesday afternoon.
A public safety alert warned residents to limit their exposure to smoke in the area near Finley Stadium. The fire also sent smoke downtown.
At 2:09 p.m., multiple Chattanooga Fire Department crews responded to SA Recycling on West 19th Street, according to a social media post. The fire was contained by around 5 p.m., and did not burn any buildings, the department said.
One firefighter was sent to a hospital with a heat-related injury and was treated and released by the early evening, according to the department.
