A worker at a Cleveland, Tennessee, facility died Thursday after becoming trapped in a trench, according to officials.
First responders were called to an industrial area off Old Chattanooga Pike at 1:15 p.m. and began trying to rescue the man who was buried in the trench, according to news release from Cleveland police.
“At some point during the rescue attempt, it was determined that the male victim was deceased, and the rescue efforts turned into a recovery effort,” the release said.
Sixteen agencies, including the Chattanooga Fire Department, responded for the recovery, according to the department.
The trench was at a construction job site, not at one of the facilities in the area, Cleveland police spokesperson Lt. Evie West said by phone.
