The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s basketball team was unable to withstand the physical challenge of Kennesaw State on Sunday, allowing 48 points in the paint in a 64-42 loss at McKenzie Arena.

Now 4-6 in Deandra Schirmer’s debut season as head coach, the Mocs are on the road for their next two games — they face Bellarmine (8-2) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in Louisville, Kentucky, then Nebraska at 1 p.m next Sunday — before returning home to face Salem University, a Division II program from West Virginia, at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21.

That will also be the final game before an extended break from games that will end with the reigning Southern Conference champions playing their league opener Jan. 9 at Western Carolina.

In Sunday’s loss to the Owls (3-4), a Conference USA member from the Atlanta area, UTC freshman Gianna Corbitt scored a team-high 14 points, while Karsen Murphy added 11 for the hosts. However, the Mocs were outrebounded 47-26 and outscored by 32 points in the paint.

Kennesaw State was just 1-for-12 from 3-point range and had 18 turnovers, but neither team took care of the ball as each side scored 18 points off turnovers. The Mocs turned it over 16 times.
