A Chattanooga man who was handcuffed and placed in the back of a patrol car after allegedly shoplifting at a Walmart then stole the cruiser and led police on a chase over the weekend, according to an affidavit of complaint.

Antonio Pickett, 29, is facing nearly 20 charges, including auto burglary, reckless endangerment and assault, the complaint said.

A Chattanooga police officer responded Saturday afternoon to a report of a simple assault at the Walmart on Greenway View Drive.

Pickett and an unknown man were allegedly using the self-checkout lane, where they scanned merchandise, including multiple packs of athletic trading cards, the complaint said.

When Pickett attempted to pay with his debit card, it was unsuccessful multiple times.
