Former President Donald Trump’s term as chief executive was the single best from the standpoint of economics in U.S. history, well known supply-side economist Arthur Laffer said Thursday in Chattanooga.

Laffer, speaking at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, also said he’s much less worried about Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris than many, adding he thinks she’s “very much like (former President) Bill Clinton,” for whom he twice voted.

“I think she’d be very, very sensitive to what the policies were and how they were perceived. And if the policies weren’t received well, she’d be like Bill Clinton and change those policies,” he told about 200 people during an hour-long address.

Laffer, 84, said the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed during the Trump administration that slashed taxes for both individuals and businesses paid for itself in the first two years by driving up government revenues.
