The Walker County school board did not take action on a personnel matter involving the system’s superintendent, bringing a standing ovation from a capacity crowd at the called meeting.

Questions remain about the nature of the personnel matter, and Damon Raines, school superintendent, would not discuss the matter Friday at the meeting. Members of the board did not speak about details of the matter during the meeting, nor did Karen Stoker, school board member, when asked afterword.

About 150 people attended, some with T-shirts and signs supporting Raines, who assumed the role about 12 years ago. The school board recently approved a three-year extension to his contract.

For most of the 2 1/2-hour gathering, the board was in a nonpublic executive session.
