It’s likely Honor Huff has played his last basketball game for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, but it’s safe to say Mocs fans will always treat the Brooklyn native as one of their own.
Moments after arriving back on campus Friday afternoon following Thursday night’s overtime win over UC Irvine in the National Invitation Tournament in Indianapolis — via police escort, no less — Huff and the Mocs were greeted by a large group of fans on the steps of McKenzie Arena.
The size of the gathering surprised a few of the smiling players, not because they didn’t expect their national title to be without celebration.
They just weren’t sure any fans were left in town after a massive turnout at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
“We knew there would be some people to welcome us back because this city is so amazing,” senior Bash Wieland said. “But there were so many fans with us that it felt like a home game, so we weren’t sure how many could be here today.
