Tamaya Jordan said during a Tuesday sentencing hearing she owns a necklace holding the ashes of her brother, who was murdered outside Chattanooga’s Amazon facility, but she cannot bear to wear it.

“I have no siblings left,” she said through tears. “I didn’t get a last goodbye.”

Jordan was among several family members who testified in front of Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Amanda Dunn about the devastation caused by the Aug. 9, 2023, fatal shooting of JaVontae Moon.

Following their testimony, D’Ante Jones was sentenced to 23 years in prison without the possibility of parole for second-degree murder — two years less than his maximum possible penalty.

A Hamilton County jury found Jones, 21, guilty of the lesser offense in January. The state charged him with first-degree murder.
