Kai Viland doesn’t have an exact memory of the first type of music her mom wanted her to hear. But she clearly remembers what her mom didn’t want her to hear.

“My mom would not let me listen to Justin Bieber,” the 18-year-old says.

Tara Viland is unapologetic.

“I was extremely vocal about ensuring she understood music beyond the radio hits that were playing in the mid-2010s,” says her mother, who recently was announced as manager for the new Venue 1921 at the East Ridge events center.
