A Chattanooga man is charged with first-degree murder in connection with a fatal shooting at an abandoned apartment complex, police said.

Isaiah Berry, 22, reportedly called police early Thursday and said he had shot a man, according to a news release.

Officers arrived at the complex on Glenwood Parkway after 2:30 a.m. and found a 55-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. The man died at the scene, police said in the release.

An initial investigation suggests Berry allegedly shot the victim multiple times – at least one round, police said – possibly while standing over him, according to the release.

Berry had been sleeping in a bedroom in the complex when the victim, later identified as Alexander Newton, reportedly came in, according to a report filed by police.
