U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Knoxville, will serve on the House Oversight DOGE Subcommittee, according to a news release from the office of U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Northwest Georgia. The subcommittee will help enact recommendations from the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency.

Burchett said the Department of Defense is bloated, that the country gets into worthless wars that get Americans killed and that he wants to shut down the Department of Education to send money back to the states and increase teacher pay, he told the Chattanooga Times Free Press by phone as he walked to vote.

“It’s gonna be a great committee, and we’re gonna come out blastin’,” Burchett said in a video on social media after the committee’s first organizational meeting. “I’m very much looking forward to it. No sacred cows in this bunch, folks. You name it, we’re gonna go after it, and we’re, hopefully, gonna save a ton of money for this country.”

Greene, the subcommittee chair, waved to the camera in Burchett’s video and said the committee couldn’t wait to get to work.
