A sign went up at the former McDonald’s site in Signal Mountain promising a Popeyes fried chicken place would open there in June, but the sign is now gone.

(UPDATE: Popeyes sign posted at former Signal Mountain McDonald’s site was a hoax, property co-owner says)

The Chattanooga Times Free Press could not reach representatives of the chicken chain on Thursday to learn whether the restaurant is coming.

The McDonald’s building at 1305 Taft Highway was demolished after the franchise owner, A & A Management of TN LLC, closed that restaurant in 2020.

“As small business owners in the community, we review our restaurant portfolio on a regular basis to make the best decisions for our business moving forward,” Rob and Carrie Goodwin, co-owners of the local McDonald’s franchise, said in a statement at the time. “The closing of our Signal Mountain restaurant was a difficult decision. It has been a pleasure serving the Signal Mountain community for more than five years. “
