Good Deed: Local paddle club contributes to Chattanooga environmental group

The Tennessee Valley Canoe Club, a premier paddling club in the southeast Tennessee region, recently donated $3,000 to WaterWays, a Chattanooga-based environmental nonprofit organization. Club members raised the funds during a recent paddle race event called “Nooga Loop 2025” on May 3, 2025, according to a news release.

The club’s aims are to bring together a diverse population of people interested in canoeing, kayaking and related activities; to increase the knowledge, safety and appreciation of paddle sports; and to support conservation and preservation of recreational waterways.

WaterWays works across the Southeast United States and the Caribbean to help communities raise awareness and stewardship of their local watersheds, the news release stated.

“We are proud to make this small donation to WaterWays. As paddlers on the beautiful rivers in our region, we appreciate the intrinsic beauty and inspiration they provide us, yet recognize the challenges all of us face to protect and preserve our fragile environment,” Nancy Packard, Nooga Loop Race director, said in the release.

Mary Beth Sutton, executive director of WaterWays, accepted the donation from Packard.
